A viable education is key to success for our community. Our children in the City of Detroit deserves the best education possible in order to compete globally. In the last 15 years the population of Detroit Public Schools had decreased from 300,000 students to a mere 47,000 students. Over 50% of schools have closed and left abandoned, and schools lack basic resources for a good education such as heating and cooling. Who is responsible for this?
My name is Faustine Amara Onwuneme and I am to be an elected School Board Member for the City of Detroit. I am passionate about education and community. My entire Pre-K to high school education was in Detroit Public Schools, once attending Keidan Elementary School, Hally Open Middle School, and Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. High School.
My education in Detroit Public Schools properly prepared me for Michigan State University, receiving a B.S in International Relations and a minor in Economics. I also taught primary school at St. Timothy Lutheran School and substitute taught in Clinton Township. I am the owner of Oluchi African Hair Braiding for the past 15 years and have traveled to over 30 countries worldwide being exposed to different education systems in China, West Africa, and Europe.
